"Prescription Strength App" Modular Library System and Repository

Case ID:
C13507
Disclosure Date:
4/1/2015
Johns Hopkins Global mobile Health Initiative (JHU-GmI) would like to develop a foundation for a modular system called the JHU Prescription Strength App Backbone. This system would offer standards and validation to host in-house custom modules and incorporate devices from participating partners. These modules would then be hosted within a shared library accessed by providers who would prescribe an appropriate selection of modules to a patient at the point of care. The patient would then download a customized “app”, comprised of the selected modules, working together seamlessly using a common data backbone, on their device or possibly a dedicated health-care mobile device, that provides them a better, coordinated, robust patient experience while offering the care team a trusted digital extension to monitor and support patient care. Prescription-strength Apps offer a clinically trusted alternative to the universe of 'consumer' apps, many of which were neither designed nor capable of enterprise-grade patient management.
