Description:

Unmet Need
Over 2.5 million people are living with epilepsy in the United States. There is a need to better understand epilepsy and to develop new methods for monitoring and managing the disease.

Technology Overview
Johns Hopkins EpiWatch™ is an app for Apple Watch™ and research study. EpiWatch helps manage epilepsy by tracking seizures and possible triggers, medications and side effects. This information can be viewed by users at any time, and a dashboard lets users share a summary of the data with their doctor or caregiver. With EpiWatch, it is possible to send a message to family members or caregivers to let them know when users are tracking a seizure.  This medical app collects biometric data and responsiveness test results using the heart rate accelerometer and gyroscope in Apple Watch.
