PING360, an improvement upon the PING system disclosed in C12249. Communication breakdowns and errors cost US hospitals over $12 B annually (Agarwal et al.). As a result, companies have developed healthcare communication technologies to alleviate some of this burden. These solutions tend to fall into one of the following categories: (1) messaging/texting systems, (2) remote patient monitoring systems. PING, a secure texting platform, was implemented in the Hopkins New Clinical Building in 2011. The hospital has been piloting the system for >4 years, and it is its dominant message system for clinical communications.
