C10179: Biomarkers of Myocardial Ischemia
Value Proposition:
Detection of ischemic myocardium as an early indication of cardiac injury allowing early detection of myocardial infarction and cell death.
Technical Details:
Coronary heart disease is the most common single cause of death in the western world representing ~20% of all deaths. This is equivalent to ~2 million deaths in Europe per year or four people per minute. In the US, over 8 million people have acute (chest pain) symptoms in the ED with 1. 5 million individuals having confirmed ACS events accounting for 500,000 short term deaths. Currently, blood tests for the cardiac specific isoform of troponin I or troponin T (TnI or TnT, respectively) is the gold standard for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction [due to cardiac muscle (cell) death. However, there is an earlier time point in which the heart is ischemic and not necrosis. Finding this diagnostic window would allow earlier intervention including earlier perfusion allowing increased salvage of the injured myocardium. Diagnostic marker (s) to detect ischemic myocardium in the core of this invention.
