C10436: Low-cost Transistors for Organic Electronics

Value Proposition:

• While many different materials may be utilized to fabricate p-channel organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs), only a limited number of materials exist for fabricating n-channel OTFTs.
• Most n-channel OTFTs are fabricated using naphthalene or perylene.
• Compared to naphthalene or perylene, pyromellitic diimide derivatives can be easily synthesized utilizing a one-step reaction between pyromellitic dianhydride and various amines.
• Due to the reactive nature of the pyromellitic dianhydride, synthesis of large quantities of pyromellitic diimides is significantly easier than synthesis of naphthalene or perylene diimides.
• Pyromellitic dianhydride has a high conversion yield and is easy to purify, so fabrication is highly scalable and less expensive to manufacture than other diimide semiconductors.
