Trackable Murine Ovarian Cancer Cell Line

JHU REF: [C12340]

Invention novelty: This tangible material is a transgenic murine ovarian cancer cell line expressing luciferase for non-invasive monitoring of tumor load in a mouse bearing this cell line.

Value Proposition: There is a need for cancer cell lines that can be monitored/detected non-invasively. This cell line provides such a tool that can be used to develop and evaluate treatment strategies for ovarian cancer. These cell lines can be used to test effectiveness of DNA vaccines and drugs that target ovarian cancer. Other advantages include:

  • Stable expression of luciferase.
  • Can be used for cell purification using flow cytometry.
  • Can be images using bioluminescent imaging systems.
  • Can be used for assessing expression/effect of specific genes on survival of ovarian cancer cells.

Technical Details
Johns Hopkins researchers have developed murine ovarian cancer cell lines expressing luciferase. This cell line, ID8-Defb29 Vegf-Luc, expresses luciferase at high levels. It was created by transducing a retrovirus encoding luciferase into the ID8-Defb29 Vegf background. The tumor load of animals containing this cell line can be monitored using bioluminescent imaging systems. This cell line can also be used to assess the effect or role of other genes of interest on ovarian cancer. This cell line is a useful tool for assessing the effect of DNA vaccines and other therapeutic agents on ovarian cancer.
