TITLE: Conditional mouse model of pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE); floxed Abcc6 allele

CASE NUMBER: C13613

ABSTRACT

Using ES-cells, JHU researchers generated a PXE conditional mouse model (floxed Abcc6 allele).  When bred to a CMV-cre mouse, this mouse develops robust calcification in the vibrissae (snout of the mouse).  They use this mouse model to test drugs that will inhibit calcification in vivo.  While PXE is a rare genetic condition, the researchers believe that the calcification in this mouse model relates to more common forms of vascular calcification.  In fact, the drugs they use in this mouse model are likely important for more common diseases as well.

FEATURES

This Abcc6 conditional mouse model bred to a CMV-cre essentially recapitulates the knock-out calcification phenotype and is alive and actively breeding.

DESCRIPTION DETAIL

Floxed Abcc6 allele bred to a CMV-cre mouse.  The floxed Abcc6 mouse can also be bred to other tissue and cell-specific cre mouse lines to determine the disease-relevant tissue/cell type driving the calcification in PXE (and potentially other more common disorders of vascular calcification).
