A Computational Flow Dynamics Based Method for Estimating Thromboembolic Risk in Patients with Myocardial Infarction

We present a unique method for quantitative assessment and estimation of thromboembolic risk in patients recovering from myocardial infarction. The method takes cardiac imaging data (CT, echo, CMR) from a patient and constructs a time]dependent geometric model of the left]ventricle (LV) from this data. This model is then subjected to computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis and the CFD analysis generates a variety of metrics that correlate with the risk of LV thrombus formation. The risk predicted by the CFD analysis can used to determine the course of treatment for the patient.
