C16419 A digital platform for remote monitoring of functional status

Unmet Need

The health of an individual is determined by a variety of factors encompassing physical, psychosocial and cognitive status. Physical and psychosocial status is usually well-monitored as there are a variety of questionnaires and tests available to diagnose and assess physical and psychosocial disorders. These disorders are also usually more evident in an individual’s day to day life as their emotions and physical ability is a requirement daily. However, cognitive or functional status is less frequently assessed and normally requires a specific in-person visit for assessment, usually only done every 6-12 months. The results of cognitive assessments are also limited with low information content. Thus, there is a need for a way to frequently and effectively measure all aspects of an individual’s health, including not only physical and psychosocial aspects, but also cognitive function.

Technology Overview

The inventors have created an integrated platform enabling remote monitoring of an individual’s health by encompassing physical status, psychosocial status, and cognitive status. The platform will be available on a mobile device, interfaced with wearable devices to incorporate various tools with a single app. The tools available are activity bands to help measure physical activity, digital questionnaires for mental health assessment, and digital tasks to assess cognitive function. The system will also include algorithms to extract any possible secondary parameters from the raw data. The app contains capability for two-way communication between individuals and health care providers as well as notifications and feedback to patients.

Stage of Development

This platform is in the conceptualization and prototyping stage.
