Unmet Need: ANT1, also known as solute carrier family 25 member 4 (SLC25A4), is a protein important for mitochondrial energy production and is relevant in the research of human mitochondrial diseases. Mutations in the gene encoding for ANT1 also can result in human disease, making the study of the protein important in understanding disease pathogenesis. Currently there are no validated human ANT1 specific antibodies, a necessary research tool.
Technical Details: Johns Hopkins researchers developed and validated a monoclonal antibody that detects human ANT1. Using a purified recombinant human ANT1 antigen, researchers created a hybridoma cell line that secretes ANT1 antibodies in cellular extracts. The monoclonal antibody produced by this hybridoma specifically detects endogenous human ANT1 by immunoblot. The antibody is human-specific and isoform-specific, making it uniquely valuable as a research tool to study ANT1 as a target of interest.
