Unmet Need:
The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has resulted in more than 365,000 deaths in the United States and over 1.9 million deaths worldwide. Diagnosis of COVID-19 has been largely limited to molecular and serologic tests, which are not indicative of the severity nor the progression of the disease. There is a huge unmet need for additional diagnostics and increased understanding of the disease to help inform treatment options for symptomatic COVID-19 patients.
Technology Overview
Inventors at Johns Hopkins University have developed a novel machine learning system to detect and classify the extent of COVID-19 in patients. This system integrates conventional molecular and serologic diagnostics with radiological assessment of COVID-19 lung tissue signatures to characterize the extent of COVID-19 of different lung tissue types with high specificity and sensitivity.
Stage of Development
The invention has undergone testing and is seeing further refinement.
