The Total Neuropathy Score - Nurse (TNSn) is a composite measure of peripheral neuropathy for use by trained non-physicians such as nurses or clinical research study coordinators.
Arising from studies of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), the Total Neuropathy Score (TNS) was originally developed and validated against a scale for diabetic peripheral neuropathy, the Neuropathy Impairment Score (NIS). Subsequently, the TNSc was developed to offer a method to quantitate peripheral neuropathy that does not require specialized and expensive equipment.
The TNSn is composed of 5 individual components (sensory, motor, autonomic, pin-prick, and vibration), that are graded from 0 to 4. The total score ranges from 0 to 20. The measures include symptoms and signs only.
