The Total Neuropathy Score - Clinical (TNSc) is a composite measure of peripheral neuropathy for use by physicians.
Arising from studies of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), the Total Neuropathy Score (TNS) was originally developed and validated against a scale for diabetic peripheral neuropathy, the Neuropathy Impairment Score (NIS). Subsequently, the TNSc was developed to offer a method to quantitate peripheral neuropathy that does not require specialized and expensive equipment.
The TNSc is composed of 7 individual components (sensory, motor, autonomic, pin-prick, vibration, strength, and deep tendon reflexes [DTR]), that are graded from 0 to 4. The total score ranges from 0 to 28. The measures include symptoms and signs only.
