Unmet Need
Contextualized medical history is essential for clinicians to care for their patients and provide proper treatment and diagnoses. However, in current practice, while clinicians typically do have access to most, if not all, medical records, when necessary, they often come in varying forms whether it be electronic vs paper or simply non-standardized formats. Consequently, clinicians are unable to make full use of this information in context. A method to easily aggregate and visualize a patient’s medical trends is needed.
Technology Overview
Inventors at Johns Hopkins have developed a tool called “Patient Insight” that illustrates a patient’s clinical phenotype in a snapshot view. Information shown includes cumulative disease manifestations, disease onset dates, and autoantibody status. The tool is developed within a web-based application and easily integrates into a clinician’s workflow using an electronic medical record system. The inventors have developed a prototype for use in scleroderma patients but will later expand to other rheumatic diseases.
Stage of Development
A prototype has been developed. The inventors are studying the efficacy of the tool in influencing treatment decision making.
